Empire Kawasaki banks ProMX points in Mackay
Empire Kawasaki racers continued to bank important points in their respective categories in the second round of the 2022 Australian ProMX Championship at Mackay, QLD, on Sunday.
In the MX1 class, Western Australian Jayden Rykers proved to be a model of consistency all day as he charged to seventh position in both motos around the Gum Valley circuit aboard his KX450.
The solid points haul saw Rykers consolidate his seventh position in the MX1 championship fight, after finishing the day seventh overall.
"First time in Mackay over the weekend and all-in-all I had a good round. There were a few more positives to pull from the first moto with track positions and total times,” Rykers reflected. “Albury is up next, so before then I need to figure some starts out, which should fix a lot of things that happen within the moto by being in the front pack early."In the MX2 class, Japanese sensation Haruki Yokoyama experienced a roller-coaster day as he continued to build experience in his first year racing the Australian Motocross Championship.
Haruki Yokoyama and his KX250 finished the day with a 10-13 scorecard, as he overcame small crashes and the humid conditions, ending the day 10th overall. He remains seventh in the MX2 points chase.
"It was good to get another weekend of national racing complete in Australia,” Yokoyama said. “The results should continue to improve as experience builds and I am fully focused on improving further in the next round."
For Jai Constantinou, the Mackay round produced more than its fair share of challenges as he worked hard to finish 14th overall in the MX2 class.
He recovered from a crash early in the opening moto, then had to work through the pack in the second race to finish with 18-11 results and 14th overall. Constantinou now sits P10 in the standings.
"The weekend was pretty tough for us, not really the results we were expecting but you have those days,” Constantinou commented. “I started off with an average qualifying and struggled to gel with the track, didn't really put in a clean lap which was all on me. Terrible starts and I just put myself in the chaos, made it for a tough weekend and hit the deck a couple of times. It was a huge effort from the Empire Kawasaki team and I look forward to a stronger round three.”
The third round of the Australian ProMX Championship will be held at Wodonga, VIC, on Sunday, 1 May, where the Empire Kawasaki team will continue its challenge for the 2022 series.
