Meg Rutledge, the reigning Queen of Australian Motocross, returns to MXW this weekend.

Kawasaki KX250 rider, Meg Rutledge, will make a surprise return to the National Motocross Championship for the final round of the ProMX series in Coolum (20-21 August 2022).

Meg Rutledge took out back-to-back MXW titles in 2018 / 2019.

“I am super excited to be heading to my first nationals in three years. This round will be the first time I have raced at Coolum since I won the Championship there in 2018,” said Rutledge

Meg Rutledge won the 2019 MXW championship at Manjimup, WA.

“I am heading into this round with a different mindset to previous years. It has been only 16 months since becoming a Mum. My life has changed along with my priorities. I think this is for the better. I am heading into this race with excitement but no unrealistic expectation of myself.”

“I have not had the lead-up I would have preferred with daycare germs making my family sick more than once in the last six weeks, but that is all part of being a Mum.”

This year, Meg entered a round of the AORC and East Coast MX. This was a good proving ground for the ProMX battle. In her first ever entry to off-road racing at AORC round 5, Meg put the KX250 onto the podium.

Meg clarified why she chose to make a return to the national competition at Coolum.

“I am excited to line up again at the nationals to show the girls that I coach that riding and racing life does not stop, or even change, once you become a Mum. A new generation of racers are coming through, and I feel that it is the responsibility of previous champions to define the pathway into racing through coaching, mentoring and sometimes…by doing.”

When speaking about how Meg copes at the track with a toddler she said, “I am lucky that my daughter Nyah absolutely loves being at the track and around anything motorbikes. I would not be able to do this without the support of my partner Aaron. He works on the bike and shares the fun of chasing after Nyah.”

“I am enjoying having no pressure for this event. This weekend of racing will be for the joy of racing and to encourage girls to enter racing. I look forward to getting back behind the gates and doing what I love.”

Meg Rutledge stepped away from national motocross racing in 2019. Meg has continued to ride and coach the next generation of Australian Champions on the Kawasaki KX250.
