Empire Motorsport’s Will Price is looking to get on the podium with his KX250X during the Hattah Desert Race this weekend.
Dubbed by some as “four hours of hell”, the iconic off-road race attracts up to 600 riders each year to put their skills to the test against the sand.
The off-road race is held on private property near Mildura in Victoria, and makes use of a 35km circuit comprising mostly large, open sand sections.
In saying this, there are a few tighter sections, but a rider will usually average around 80km/h per lap. During the fastest sections, it isn’t uncommon to see top speeds anywhere between 150km/h and 170km/h.
The race comes to an end when the lead rider completes eight laps, which is usually around the four-hour mark.
This is just the second time that Empire Motorsports has entered the iconic race, and despite promising qualifying results in the 250 and 450 classes last year, the weekend ended with two DNFs due to injury.
Will Price is hoping to get his green machine on the podium and was extremely excited to get out on the sand earlier this week.
“Really looking forward to this year's Hattah Desert Race! The conditions are perfect here in Mildura at the moment and we’ve put in a lot of effort for this one.” Price said.
“The KX250X is absolutely flying and we are in good shape! I’m going to give it 110% and hopefully we can put the green machine on the podium!” he added.
