The Empire Kawasaki Team is set for the Opening Round of the 2024 ProMX Championship, taking place this Sunday March 17th at Wonthaggi, Victoria.
2024 has seen many new faces transfer to the Kawasaki Australia-backed program with signings Luke Clout and Reid Taylor competing across MX1 and MX2 respectively, along with a new Team Manager in the form of industry veteran, Brad Mcalpine.
Under the watchful eye of Team Owner Tyson Cherry, the Melbourne-based Empire Kawasaki Team has seen a huge step up in support and commitment for 2024.
“After many years of building the team, we have really elevated our program at every possible level for this season. The timing is perfect with the release of the all-new 2024 Kawasaki KX450 and in collaboration with Kawasaki Australia, we wanted to go after a ProMX MX1 Class Championship”, commented Mr Cherry.
“The calibre of rider we have in Luke Clout really speaks for our intentions this year. Luke is a former Champion and armed with the 24’ KX450, along with Brad Mcalpine and the support we have from Factory SHOWA Suspension in Japan, there is no limit to what Luke can achieve this season”, concluded Mr Cherry.
New MX2 class signing Reid Taylor is fresh off claiming the Indian Supercross League MX2 Championship and looks to bring that momentum into ProMX this weekend.
“I’m feeling great after my time overseas in India and that momentum has carried through to my testing with the team prior to ProMX”, said Taylor.
“Obviously everyone’s goal is to win, but I want to leave Wonthaggi with solid points and work towards podiums and race wins throughout the season, staying in the Championship chase”, concluded Taylor.
Empire Kawasaki MXW Class rider Taylah McCutcheon has unfortunately succumbed to a pre-season training incident and injury that will see her sidelined for the foreseeable future.
“I’m devastated to be missing out on the opening round of MXW at ProMX”, commented McCutcheon.
“We were just weeks away from the gates dropping and I felt the best I’ve ever felt with the team and my KX250. After surgery I am home recovering and will update everyone on a potential timeframe for returning to racing once I know more”, concluded McCutcheon.
The Opening Round of the 2024 ProMX Championship takes place at the Wonthaggi Circuit in Victoria on Sunday March 17th, with the event being broadcast across free-to-air coverage on SBS and streaming platform SBS On Demand along with the ProMX TV livestream coverage.
