Western MX Series – Round 1: Peter Bedford

The opening round of the Western MX Series rolled into the Colac MX Club last weekend, delivering a mix of sunshine, storm clouds, and some of the toughest track conditions riders have faced in recent memory.

The weekend began under clear, warm skies, but everything changed late on Saturday as heavy rain and thunderstorms moved in. The downpour drenched the circuit and transformed the once‑fast layout into a treacherous mix of deep ruts, slick red clay, and sand sections that quickly turned into a thick, soupy challenge for every rider.

Despite the rapidly deteriorating conditions, Matt Jones Motorcycles Team Green Rider, Peter Bedford, lined up for all three motos in both MX 1 C-Grade and the Vets Over‑40s class. Each race demanded full focus and patience, with the track offering zero forgiveness as it continued to break down throughout the day.

By the final chequered flag, Peter wrapped up the round with:
  • 10th overall from 17 starters (MX1‑C Grade)
  • 11th overall from 19 starters (Vets Over‑40s)

"Given the conditions, I’m grateful just to have made it through the full program—and even more grateful that the bike came home in one piece", stated Peter at the end of the long day.

Next Race: Triggs Desert MX in Ouyen.
