Round 1 of the
ProMX Championship at Wonthaggi delivered its fair share of challenges, and
Joel Cigliano’s weekend was a clear example of how quickly fortunes can change in motocross. Despite showing strong starts in both races, adversity in Race 1 forced an early end to his day before he bounced back with determination in Race 2.
Cigliano came out firing in the opening race, but his momentum was abruptly halted. As he explained, “Race 1 I got a good start and another rider fell in a rut in front of me and I had nowhere to go.” The incident caused significant damage to his gear lever, and with no way for the mechanics to repair it in time, he was forced to record a DNF.
Regrouping for Race 2, Cigliano once again put himself in a strong position off the start. This time, he stayed out of trouble and focused on maintaining a steady pace throughout the race. Reflecting on his ride, he said he “rode consistently to finish 22nd,” capping off a determined recovery after a frustrating start to the round.
