Peter Bedford Tackles the North West Vic Mcc Farmers 6 Hour Pony Express
Last week, Peter Bedford converted his KX450F back to desert racing specification to compete in the final desert race of the season, the North West Vic MCC Farmers 6 Hour Pony Express.
Peter teamed up with fellow DB racer Chris Manson in the Combined Age 80+ class, with the pair putting together a strong performance to finish 2nd place.
The 39-kilometre course provided a demanding mix of soft sand, clay, salt lake sections and pebble-covered terrain. The track featured long, high-speed straights where the KX450F was running at full noise in top gear, combined with tight and technical sections that required precision, concentration and careful bike control.
As is typical with an endurance desert race, conditions changed significantly throughout the day. Every lap presented a different challenge as traffic altered the track, while the final laps saw the circuit develop large whoops, deep sand ruts and numerous square edges that tested both the riders and the machinery.
Across the six-hour event, Peter and Chris completed nine laps, covering approximately 350 kilometres. It was a highly successful day, with both riders and the KX450F completing the event without issue.
Once again, the KX450F demonstrated its reliability and performance, running faultlessly throughout the race. Even as the track deteriorated late in the event, the bike continued to handle the increasingly rough terrain with the same confidence it showed on the opening lap.
The result was a strong finish to the desert racing season, with Peter Bedford and Chris Manson claiming a well-earned 2nd place in the Combined Age 80+ class, while the KX450F once again proved its capability in demanding desert conditions.
