Early-onset dementia and Alzheimer's disease have unfortunately had a significant impact on my family. My father entered full-time dementia care at just 59 years old, and both my grandmother and great-grandmother on my father's side also suffered from dementia-related illnesses. Though dementia is less common in those under 65, it can strike as early as one's thirties, forties, or fifties. With this family history in mind, I've embraced the philosophy that you never know what lies ahead, prompting me to start ticking off my “one-day" adventures.
In 2022, I proudly represented The Australian Alzheimer's Research Foundation at the Finke Desert Race in Alice Springs, known as Australia's most challenging off-road race. This experience ignited my passion for supporting dementia research through my racing endeavors.
In 2024, I took on the Hattah Desert Race, completing 5 laps and making remarkable gains despite a challenging setback on lap 4 losing a Steg Peg. Looking ahead to 2025, I am committed to once again supporting The Australian Alzheimer's Research Foundation. This time, I will race with two bikes emblazoned in the foundation's new colours at both Enduro and Motocross events.
